MetaSkills’s director Reg Reynolds has extensive experience as a project manager and programme manager in mining and energy mega-projects. He is well equipped to provide an advisory service on the setting up (prefeasibility and feasibility studies) and execution of construction projects.
Reg Reynolds is a professional engineer with more than 27 years’ experience at executive level in the mining and power industries. During this time he had executive responsibility for managing multimillion Rand multidisciplinary capital construction projects.
After successfully managing two fast-track new colliery surface works projects he left the mining industry to manage Eskom’s new Majuba coal fired power station project before taking up a head office position to establish a division in Eskom’s Generation Group (as it was then) to manage the completion of the previous build programme and undertake a programme of large power station modification and refurbishment projects. He took an active part in negotiating new contracts and in resolving many large contract claims disputes.
Based on his extensive experience in construction, Reg is aware that relationships between the Employer and the Contractor can quickly sour when construction claims are not settled expeditiously and the resulting disputes being allowed to fester. He believes claims dispute avoidance should be the first prize but where unavoidable rapid resolution should follow, preferably by means of negotiation and mediation in the first instance thereafter by adjudication where the contract provides for such, and arbitration only as a last resort.
